Perpetual contracts and spot markets
Spot trading exchanges the token itself. A perpetual is a contract based on an asset’s price, with no fixed expiry. Long and short positions, margin, leverage and funding belong to this part of the platform.

Spot and perpetual trading on Aster
Spot trading exchanges an asset itself: a token purchase in a trading pair records a balance of that token in the account. A perpetual contract instead tracks an underlying asset’s price without creating ownership of that asset.
A long benefits from rising prices and a short from falling prices. Perpetuals have no fixed expiry, while an open position depends on margin requirements. A BTC perpetual position and a Bitcoin spot balance therefore represent different holdings. Spot and perpetual market structure
Aster’s trading environments
Perpetuals uses an order book to register and match orders. Spot has a separate order book for token purchases and sales.
Shield is a streamlined, AMM-style environment focused on order and position privacy. The 1001x mode uses ALP pool liquidity for on-chain perpetuals on selected pairs. Its name does not describe the leverage available across every Aster market. Trading environments, Shield and 1001x
Open AsterBitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and other markets
BTC, ETH and SOL are examples of Aster’s crypto markets. Symbols such as BTCUSDT and BTCUSD1 identify the underlying asset and the contract’s quoting currency. The product range also includes perpetual markets based on stocks and commodities.
These contracts track an underlying price; a stock perpetual, for example, differs from direct share ownership. Available symbols, settlement currency and contract specifications are market-specific. Contract groups and example symbols
Login, accounts and identity verification
Use the Aster entry button on this page, then choose Connect Wallet, your wallet and the network. Confirm the connection in your wallet. Supported options include MetaMask, Rabby, Binance Wallet and WalletConnect; email login is another entry method.
If the page does not load on your connection, try another browser or test the connection with a VPN. A country-not-supported message is different from a connection error and relates to account eligibility.
The order book, market orders and limit orders
An order book displays bids and offers by price and size. A market order matches existing orders, with its fill price determined by available liquidity. A limit order specifies a price and can remain in the book until matching conditions arise.
A maker order adds liquidity; a taker uses existing liquidity. A stop-limit order creates a limit order after its trigger price is reached. Spot order types
Margin, leverage, funding and liquidation
Margin is position collateral; leverage expresses the relationship between position value and collateral. Single-asset mode separates collateral and calculations by position. Multi-asset mode allows several supported assets to contribute to collateral shared across positions.
Funding is a periodic payment between long and short positions, separate from execution fees. With positive funding, longs pay shorts; with negative funding, the direction reverses.
The mark price contributes to unrealized profit and loss calculations and liquidation triggers. When collateral no longer covers maintenance requirements, liquidation can reduce or close a position. Collateral structure, funding and liquidation
