USDT transfer fees: TRC20 vs ERC20 and the amount you receive
USDT on TRON and USDT on Ethereum use different networks and fee mechanisms. Learn how exchange withdrawal charges differ from wallet transfers, why TRX or ETH may be needed, and how to compare the final amount received.

There is no single universal USDT transfer fee
Wallet transfer costs depend on the network. Exchange withdrawals also follow the service’s withdrawal schedule. “USDT fees” alone does not specify a network or operation.
Service overview ↓TRON USDT and Ethereum USDT
| Asset label | Network | Wallet cost basis |
|---|---|---|
| USDT TRC20 | TRON | Bandwidth and Energy resources, potentially consuming TRX |
| USDT ERC20 | Ethereum | Gas paid in ETH |
Tether’s official protocol list identifies USDT on both networks. The symbol alone does not identify the network. A TRON balance and an Ethereum balance are records on separate chains.
Network costs and exchange withdrawals
| Charge | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Trading fee | Buying or selling within a service |
| Withdrawal charge | Moving USDT out of an exchange account |
| Network cost | Recording a blockchain transaction |
An exchange may quote withdrawals in USDT while blockchain settlement uses another resource. Its schedule is therefore not a universal network tariff. An internal account transfer may also be recorded without a separate on-chain transaction.
Network resources are separate from USDT
Ethereum gas is paid in ETH. Holding USDT does not itself create an ETH balance. Cost follows the work performed and the gas price, as described in the Ethereum documentation.
TRON uses Bandwidth for transaction size and Energy for smart-contract execution. Staking or delegation can supply resources; insufficient resources can result in TRX consumption. The TRON resource model explains these mechanisms.
Is TRC20 always cheaper?
The final charge depends on network conditions, wallet resources and the service’s schedule. TRC20 and ERC20 labels do not establish one permanent cost ranking. A fixed exchange withdrawal charge can differ from direct wallet execution.
Transfer size also changes the relative cost: a fixed charge takes a larger share of a smaller transfer.
A fixed withdrawal fee as a percentage
In an illustrative withdrawal of 100 USDT with a 1 USDT deduction, the output is 99 USDT and the charge is 1%. The same hypothetical fee on 1,000 USDT is 0.1%. These figures are not a network or exchange tariff.
A separately paid charge produces different accounting: output can remain unchanged while another balance pays the cost.
ERC20-to-TRC20 conversion is a separate operation
A network change is not an ordinary transfer to another address. A conversion receives an asset on the source chain and delivers output on the destination chain. Liquidity, route providers and settlement conditions affect the result.
NEAR Intents is one cross-chain conversion infrastructure. Its fee documentation separates protocol rates from some distribution-channel costs. A final order follows its own quote; a general tariff does not guarantee every route or amount.
View platformA confirmed transfer and a credited account
Blockchain execution and an exchange’s deposit credit are separate steps. Network status alone does not explain the receiving service’s internal processing. Supported networks, confirmation requirements and account conditions can affect crediting time.
A similar-looking address does not establish network support. The network is part of the deposit specification.

Common questions
What is TRC20 versus ERC20 USDT?
Here, TRC20 refers to USDT on TRON and ERC20 to USDT on Ethereum. Their execution and fee mechanisms differ.
What is the USDT transfer fee?
It depends on network, wallet or exchange, and operation. There is no universal fixed amount.
Why can a wallet with USDT fail to transfer?
Network resources are separate from USDT. Ethereum uses ETH; TRON uses network resources or TRX. Insufficient resources are one possible cause.
Is an exchange withdrawal charge the network fee?
No. The service publishes a withdrawal schedule; the blockchain charges for transaction execution.
Is TRC20 always cheaper?
No. Wallet resources, service rates and network conditions affect the final amount.
Is converting ERC20 to TRC20 an ordinary send?
No. Cross-chain conversion needs a compatible route and destination-chain settlement.
